Example RFQ Cloud Infrastructure

This is a generic example of the typical hardware needed to run a fully automated cloud based virtual network test lab. There is a common secure command and control zone as well as multiple pods for different roles. This design is flexible and can be used for product verification, performance assessments, security research, sales demos, customer/field training, marketing reports, and even for product design and development.

Some capabilities to consider include SSL VPN, IPv6 and IPv4, Power Management, monitoring, and OPNFV conformance.

 Request for Quote – Managed Virtual Test Lab Infrastructure

We’d like pricing for the following:

  • 4 physical servers with vmware esxi in a vsan cluster with 2 ssd and 2 sata drives each
  • Pair of vcenter virtual appliances for test management and operations (should be at Enterprise Plus license level)
  • 40 physical servers for testing hypervisors
  • Using 2 nodes to a rack unit the above should be in 1 rack with power and networking on the side or in the middle to conserve wire length.
  • Connections between racks should be 40 to 100 gbps links.

All servers should be as follows

  1. dual 1 gige ports with dedicated switches for test setup and management
  2. dual 10 or 40 gige ports with dedicated switches for test mission traffic
  3. dedicated IPMI switched network for power and IP/KVM
  4. 256 GB RAM
  5. 2×8 core Intel CPU E5 processor at least 2ghz
  6. TPM Trusted Platform Module to support Intel TXT Trusted Execution Technology
  7. 6×600 GB Intel SSD (SAS or SATA okay) – no RAID controller needed
  8. Redundant Power Supplies

The following requirements are being requested:

  • Ability to remotely manage environment via secure protocols
  • Minimal public IP addresses needed – we will VPN into the lab
  • Ability to support both IPv4 and IPv6
  • Create and modify reverse DNS PTR records for our IP Addresses through both web and command line interfaces
  • Per device and per port accounting for network and power usage\
  • Ability to manage the physical switch network to verify ARP table and MAC Address port mapping audit
  • Ability to import or create our own bare metal images for kickstart PXE Boot provisioning of the physical servers.
  • TPM/Intel TXT capable hardware support.
  • Operating system support should include latest versions of:
    • Microsoft Windows Server 2012 or 2016 with Hyper-V
    • VMware vSphere ESXi 5 and 6
    • Debian / Ubuntu
    • RedHat RHEL / CentOS / Fedora
    • Xen Server
  • Ability to import our own VMware virtual machine images via OVA and deploy them to the management servers through both web and command line interfaces
  • Ability to power cycle and monitor power usage of each physical system via customer managed Power Distribution Units with Per Outlet Power Control and Sensing through both web and command line interfaces
  • Discount for 1 year advanced prepayment available as an option
  • Ability to control our own SSL Certificates with dedicated management portals
  • REST API available to monitor and provision server and network equipment
